Token Metadata

Token metadata is information associated with a digital token that describes or identifies characteristics of that token. Depending on the implementation, metadata may include a token's name, symbol, description or references to additional information.

Why it matters to you

Metadata can help applications and users understand what a token represents, but it should not be confused with legal proof of ownership or independent verification of an underlying asset. The information attached to a token is only as reliable as the systems and parties responsible for providing and maintaining it.
