Underlying Asset
The underlying asset is the actual asset, financial instrument or economic exposure that sits behind a tokenized product. For a tokenized property investment, the underlying asset may ultimately be real estate. For a tokenized Treasury product, it may be government securities.
Why it matters to you
Understanding the underlying asset tells you what ultimately gives the investment its economic value and where its returns and risks originate. A token may trade on a blockchain, but its value can still depend heavily on something that exists outside it.
