Stop Order
A stop order is an order that becomes active when a specified trigger condition is reached. Depending on the order type, it may then submit a market order, limit order or another instruction.
Why it matters to you
Stop orders allow traders to plan actions in advance rather than relying on being present when price reaches a particular level. But the trigger and execution are separate events. A stop being triggered does not necessarily mean the resulting order will execute at exactly the trigger price.
