Recordkeeping is the process of maintaining accurate information about transactions, ownership, investors and other activities relating to an investment. Records may exist on traditional systems, blockchain infrastructure or a combination of both.
Why it matters to you
One of tokenization's important questions is not simply whether ownership appears onchain, but which record is legally authoritative. A blockchain record, transfer agent record, custodian record and legal ownership register may perform different functions depending on the structure.
