Position Tier

A position tier is a risk category applied by some derivatives platforms based on the size of a trader's position or exposure. Different tiers can have different margin requirements, maintenance requirements and maximum leverage.

Why it matters to you

Increasing a position can do more than simply increase the amount of money at risk. Moving into a higher risk tier may change the margin requirements applied to the position and potentially affect its liquidation calculations.
