Order Type
An order type is the set of instructions that determines how a trading order should behave. Common examples include market orders, limit orders, stop orders and take profit orders.
Why it matters to you
Different order types solve different execution problems. Some prioritize getting into or out of the market quickly. Others prioritize price control or wait for a specific trigger. Using the wrong order type can produce a very different result from the trade a trader intended.
