Time in Force
Time in force determines how long an order remains active and how it should behave if it cannot be filled immediately. Common instructions include Good Till Canceled, Immediate or Cancel and Fill or Kill.
Why it matters to you
Two identical limit orders can behave differently depending on their time in force setting. Understanding this prevents traders from accidentally leaving orders open, receiving partial fills they did not expect or canceling orders they intended to keep active.
