Partial Fill

A partial fill occurs when only part of an order is executed. The remaining quantity may stay open, be canceled or behave according to the order's settings.

Why it matters to you

A trader intending to open a $100,000 position might initially receive only $40,000 of exposure if insufficient liquidity is available at the requested price. That affects position size, risk and potentially the rest of the trading plan. Always check what actually filled rather than assuming the submitted order became the intended position.
