Option Writer
An option writer is the party that sells or creates the short side of an option contract and assumes the corresponding contractual obligation.
Why it matters to you
"Writing a call" or "writing a put" means selling the option rather than buying it. If the holder exercises and the seller is assigned, the writer may be required to fulfil the contract.
