Long Position
A long position is a position that generally benefits when the price of the market being traded rises and loses value when the price falls. In perpetual futures, a trader can open a long position without necessarily buying or owning the underlying asset.
Why it matters to you
Going long is how a perp trader takes bullish directional exposure. If the contract price rises relative to the trader's entry, the position generally moves into profit. If it falls, the position moves into loss. Leverage can magnify both outcomes.
