Short Position

A short position is a position that generally benefits when the price of the market being traded falls and loses value when the price rises. Perpetual futures make it possible to take short exposure through the contract without first owning the underlying asset.

Why it matters to you

Shorting allows traders to speculate on falling prices or hedge other market exposure. But losses on a leveraged short position can increase quickly if the market rises against the trader.
