Qualified Custodian
A qualified custodian is a custodian that meets particular legal or regulatory requirements under an applicable jurisdiction. Which institutions qualify, and for which assets or activities, depends on the relevant regulatory framework.
Why it matters to you
For certain regulated investment activities, simply having someone hold the assets may not be sufficient. Rules may require assets to be maintained with particular types of regulated custodians, making the custody structure an important part of an RWA product.
