Custody
Custody refers to the safekeeping and administration of assets on behalf of an owner or investor. Depending on the investment, custody may involve securities, cash, physical assets, digital assets or the cryptographic credentials used to control blockchain based assets.
Why it matters to you
With RWAs, there may be more than one layer of custody. A token might exist onchain while the underlying shares, bonds, cash, gold or other assets are held elsewhere. Understanding who controls each layer is an important part of understanding what actually supports the investment.
