Order
An order is an instruction submitted to a trading platform to buy, sell, open, reduce or close a position under specified conditions. Different order types determine when and how the platform attempts to execute that instruction.
Why it matters to you
Choosing an order type is part of trade execution. A market order prioritizes execution, while a limit order gives the trader more control over price. Stop and conditional orders allow actions to be triggered when specified conditions are reached. Understanding what each instruction actually does helps prevent execution mistakes.
