Expiration
Expiration is the point at which an option reaches the end of its contractual life and its remaining rights and obligations are determined according to the contract and applicable exercise and settlement procedures.
Why it matters to you
Expiration is one of the defining characteristics of options. A trader can be correct about the eventual direction of an asset but still lose on an option if the expected move does not occur within the relevant timeframe.
