Distributed Ledger Technology (DLT)

Distributed Ledger Technology, or DLT, is a broader term for systems that allow records to be shared and synchronized across multiple participants or locations. Blockchain is one form of distributed ledger technology, although not every distributed ledger uses a blockchain structure.

Why it matters to you

You will frequently encounter the term DLT when reading about institutional tokenization, banks, financial market infrastructure and regulated digital asset projects. Understanding it helps make sense of RWA projects that use distributed ledger infrastructure without necessarily describing themselves simply as "crypto."
