A breakout occurs when price moves beyond an important resistance level, range boundary or other established market structure.
Why it matters to you
A breakout can indicate that the previous trading structure is changing. But trading briefly above a level does not guarantee the breakout will hold. Volume, acceptance, order flow and subsequent price behavior can provide additional context.
