Volume
Volume measures the amount of trading activity that takes place during a specified period. Depending on the market and data provider, it may be expressed in units, contracts or monetary value.
Why it matters to you
Volume helps traders assess how much activity is occurring behind a price move. A large price move accompanied by unusually high volume tells you something different from the same move occurring during very little trading activity. Volume should be interpreted alongside market context rather than as a standalone buy or sell signal.
