Total Return
Total return measures the overall gain or loss from an investment, taking into account both changes in its value and income received from it. For an RWA, that could include income such as interest, rent or dividends alongside any increase or decrease in the value of the investment.
Why it matters to you
Looking only at yield can give an incomplete picture. An investment producing an 8% income yield while falling 15% in value has produced a very different result from an investment yielding 5% while also appreciating. Total return helps investors consider both sides.
