Pin Risk
Pin risk arises when the underlying asset trades very close to an option's strike around expiration, creating uncertainty about whether the option will ultimately be exercised or assigned.
Why it matters to you
Imagine a stock is moving around: $100 and you are short a: $100 option near expiration. A small late move may affect exercise and assignment outcomes. The resulting position may therefore be uncertain until the relevant expiration and assignment processes are completed.
