Expiration Risk

Expiration risk refers to risks that arise as an option approaches expiration, including rapidly changing exposure, uncertain exercise outcomes and the possibility of ending up with an unintended underlying position.

Why it matters to you

Near expiration, relatively small moves in the underlying can materially change whether an option finishes ITM or OTM. The trader may also have less time to respond.
