Margin Call

A margin call is a warning or requirement that additional margin is needed because an account or position no longer satisfies, or is approaching, required margin levels. How this works varies significantly between trading platforms.

Why it matters to you

Traders should not assume they will always receive a traditional margin call with enough time to act. In automated perpetual futures markets, positions can move into liquidation according to the platform's rules. Understanding the platform's actual liquidation process is therefore more important than relying on the expectation of a warning.
