Futures Market

A futures market is a market where participants trade derivative contracts linked to an underlying asset, price or financial reference. Futures markets can include contracts with fixed expiry dates as well as perpetual futures markets without a fixed expiry.

Why it matters to you

The futures market can behave differently from the underlying spot market because traders are buying and selling derivative exposure rather than simply exchanging the asset itself. Positioning, leverage, funding and expectations can all influence futures pricing.
