Delivery versus Payment (DvP)

Delivery versus Payment, usually shortened to DvP, is a settlement principle designed to link the delivery of an asset with the corresponding payment. The objective is to avoid one party delivering its side of the transaction without receiving what it is owed.

Why it matters to you

DvP is an important concept in securities settlement and increasingly relevant to tokenized financial markets. Blockchain based systems can support models where digital assets and digital forms of payment are coordinated more closely, potentially reducing settlement risk.
