Atomic Settlement

Atomic settlement is a transaction structure in which the transfer of one asset occurs only if the corresponding transfer of the other asset also occurs. Either both sides of the transaction complete, or neither does.

Why it matters to you

In a conventional transaction, one party may deliver an asset before receiving the corresponding payment, creating settlement risk. Atomic settlement can reduce this risk by linking the two transfers so they complete together.
