Covered Option
A covered option is a short option position where another holding or position provides the specified coverage for the option obligation. A classic example is a short call covered by ownership of the underlying shares.
Why it matters to you
Coverage can change the risk profile and margin treatment of a short option. But: Covered does not mean risk free. A covered call still carries the downside risk of the underlying shares.
