Coupon

A coupon is the interest payment associated with a bond or other debt instrument. The coupon rate is generally stated as a percentage of the bond's face or principal amount and determines the interest the issuer is scheduled to pay according to the terms of the instrument.

Why it matters to you

Tokenizing a bond may change how ownership and settlement are handled, but it does not remove the economics of the bond. Investors still need to understand the coupon, maturity, credit quality and ability of the issuer to repay.
