Collateral Value

Collateral value is the value a trading platform assigns to assets being used to support margin obligations. It may not always equal the asset's full market value because platforms can apply valuation adjustments or collateral weights.

Why it matters to you

A trader may deposit $10,000 worth of an asset without receiving $10,000 of usable collateral value. Understanding how the platform values collateral becomes particularly important when several assets can be used as margin.
