Portfolio Margin

Portfolio margin is a margin system that evaluates risk across multiple positions rather than treating every position completely independently. Offsets, hedges and correlations may be considered when calculating margin requirements.

Why it matters to you

A hedged portfolio may carry less overall risk than the sum of its individual positions suggests. Portfolio margin attempts to recognize this. However, its calculations are more complex, and changes in correlations, volatility or market conditions can alter margin requirements.
