Spot Index

A spot index is a reference price constructed from prices in underlying spot markets. Depending on the platform, it may combine data from several exchanges using a specified methodology.

Why it matters to you

A perp market can temporarily trade above or below the broader spot market. Using a spot index provides an external reference against which that difference can be measured. The composition and methodology of the index can vary between platforms.
