Put Skew

Put skew describes a volatility structure in which lower strike puts trade at higher implied volatility than comparable higher strike options.

Why it matters to you

This pattern is common in many equity and index option markets where investors place significant value on downside protection. It means an OTM put may carry a substantially different implied volatility from an equally distant OTM call.
