Perpetual Contract

A perpetual contract is a derivative contract with no fixed expiry date that is designed to track the price of an underlying asset. The term is generally used interchangeably with perpetual futures or perps.

Why it matters to you

Different exchanges and trading platforms use slightly different terminology. One may call the product a perpetual future, another a perpetual contract, and traders will usually just call it a perp. Understanding that these terms generally refer to the same type of instrument prevents unnecessary confusion.
