Passive Order
A passive order is an order that rests in the market waiting for another participant to trade against it rather than immediately crossing the spread for execution.
Why it matters to you
Understanding passive versus aggressive orders makes order flow much easier to understand. Aggressive traders consume liquidity. Passive orders provide the liquidity they trade against. The interaction between the two is fundamental to market microstructure.
