Long Volatility
Long volatility describes a position or strategy that generally benefits from greater volatility or sufficiently large market movement, depending on the structure of the trade. Long options commonly provide positive Vega exposure, although the complete position must always be considered.
Why it matters to you
A long volatility trader is not necessarily saying: "The market will go up." They may instead be saying: "The market is pricing too little movement or uncertainty."
