IV Rank

IV Rank is a metric designed to show where current implied volatility sits relative to its own historical range over a chosen lookback period. A common version compares current IV with the highest and lowest IV readings over the previous year.

Why it matters to you

An IV reading such as 40% tells you the level of implied volatility. IV Rank adds historical context. It helps answer: Is current IV relatively high or low compared with where it has been?
