Implied Volatility Is Not Direction

Implied volatility measures the volatility embedded in option prices. It does not, by itself, specify whether the underlying asset is expected to rise or fall.

Why it matters to you

An IV of 60% does not mean: 60% probability the stock rises. It does not mean: the stock is expected to rise 60%. It does not provide a bullish or bearish forecast by itself. It is a volatility input expressed on an annualized basis under the relevant convention.
