Dealer Positioning
Dealer positioning refers to estimates of the options exposures held by dealers and the potential hedging activity associated with those exposures.
Why it matters to you
Dealer positioning analysis can help traders think about potential: Delta hedging, Gamma effects, volatility sensitivity, and expiration related flows. But actual dealer books are not fully visible from public options data. Therefore: Dealer positioning is estimated, not known with certainty.
