Average True Range (ATR)

Average True Range, or ATR, is an indicator that measures the average range of price movement over a selected number of periods while accounting for gaps between periods.

Why it matters to you

ATR helps traders estimate how much an asset has recently been moving. This can provide useful context for stop placement, position sizing and changing volatility conditions. ATR measures movement, not direction.
