American Style Option
An American style option generally allows the holder to exercise the contract at any permitted time up to and including expiration, subject to the contract and market's applicable rules.
Why it matters to you
Because early exercise is possible, sellers of American style options may face assignment before expiration. Many listed US equity options use American style exercise.
