Maximum profit is the greatest profit a position can produce under its defined payoff structure, where such a maximum exists.
Why it matters to you
Some options strategies have capped profit. Others do not have a fixed maximum. For example, a bull call spread has a calculable maximum expiration profit, while a long call has theoretically uncapped upside as the underlying price rises.
