Event Volatility

Event volatility refers to the additional uncertainty associated with a known event that may cause a significant move in the underlying asset. Examples include: earnings, major economic announcements, regulatory decisions, product announcements, or other scheduled catalysts.

Why it matters to you

Options covering major events may become more expensive because traders expect a greater range of possible outcomes. Once the event passes, some of that uncertainty can disappear rapidly.
